GO FOR IT AT THE CIMR : INTRODUCTION (version française ci-après)
This CD is the result of a very unexpected collaboration between SisDee, French artist-vocal coach-producer, and Father Felix's Central Institute on Mental Retardation, which he founded 45 years ago in Trivandrum, India, to take care of children with mental handicaps in a brand new way, which includes music and all kind of arts, as dance, instrumental practice or singing. He even created the first and only performing art center by and for the mentally retarded, the Freedom Center, located in Kovalam.

SisDee has a completely different background ; she grew up in Paris France, went to the outdoor school of Afro-american and Caribean musical arts, and when she became a singing teacher in 1994, her wish was to communicate that amazing possibility for each one to express his own personality that Hip-hop, Reggae or Soul traditions provide. Among those, the "side B" custom is beautiful : when a singer release a song, the use is that the instrumental should also come out, with the idea that all kind of performers could use it for their own purpose and with their own style, and that allowed generations of young artist to create their first pieces of work all around the world.

Then among the years SisDee discovered that recording her students and using technology - multitrack recording programs, pitch correction... - and vocal arrangements to compensate for their lacks and sublime their talents was an excellent pedagogical tool, and she produced hundreds of tracks and 4 pedagogical compilations.

This is the type of collaboration SisDee proposes to Father Felix and the CIMR : record songs with their students over American and Jamaican side Bs, and obviously it was the very first time of such an experience for everyone - SisDee being also absolutely inexperienced in the fields of Indian music and mental retardation.

Every children that were able to sing or form a word have participated to the project, the goal being that they could hear what they have on mind and hearts, and that their handicaps and medicines they have to take prevent them from spreading to the world.

The process happened in 3 steps : 1 week of workshops, 1 week of recording and 1 week for the editing, which is a very fast pace, and all children recorded very quickly and spontaneously over these instrumentals they are definitely not used to listen to, and nevertheless sing over them.

Some have more skills or abilities, but all have a lot to say ; we hope that you will enjoy their songs as much as they enjoyed recording them and listening to them, and we are sure you will also notice some very, very talented young artists among them, ready to rock the planet :)

Thank you for your attention,
Father Felix and SisDee
